BEIRUT: Two Lebanese soldiers being held hostage by ISIS on the outskirts of the northeast town of Arsal telephoned their families Monday, urging them to stage violent protests for their release.

Rabih Mawri, the uncle of captive soldier Khaled Moqbel, told The Daily Star that Moqbel called his wife to relay the militant’s demands directly.

“He asked [the family] to step up their protests, to act in violent way,” Mawri said in a phone interview. “He didn’t give them a deadline, but said they need to act as soon as possible.”
