Can we talk about the economy, for once?

Every season has something to offer Lebanon. The country has now lost the summer as the unrelenting violence in Syria and sporadic internal clashes stifle our tourism, investment and trade opportunities. In parallel, there are internal debates (often expressed by way of burning tires) about various matters that, though not always economic in nature, do influence the economy and vice versa. As the global economy undergoes profound realignments, in Lebanon we are still failing to fix what seems to be (but cannot be) an intractable electricity problem. The fact is the economy has never been given the priority and avidity it deserves and it’s for this reason that we continually fail to manage even the most straightforward challenges. [Link]
